Terms of service

momm is a screen-time app. It helps you notice how long you spend on your phone and hand some of that time back to yourself. These terms are the agreement between you and momm for the app, this website, and anything else we put in front of you.

Using momm means you accept them. If you don't, that's a fair answer — don't use the app.

This is a pre-release product. Features arrive, change shape, and occasionally leave. Things will break. We may reset data during early development, and we may stop offering the service entirely — with as much notice as we can manage.

Nothing here should be read as a promise that a particular feature will exist tomorrow.

You need to be at least 13 to use momm, and old enough to agree to a contract where you live. If you're under 18, use it with a parent or guardian who's happy for you to.

momm is not built for children under 13 and we don't want their data. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, tell us and we'll delete it.

You sign in with Google or Apple, and those are the only two ways in. There's no password to lose, which means the security of your momm account is the security of whichever of those accounts you used — look after it.

You're responsible for what happens under your account. One account per person, and don't hand it to someone else.

Free to start. If we ever charge for something, we'll say so clearly before you pay, and the price and terms will be on the screen where you buy it.

Any purchase made inside the iOS app is a purchase from Apple, on Apple's terms. That means subscriptions are managed, cancelled, and refunded through your Apple account and not by us — we can ask on your behalf, but the decision is Apple's and we can't overturn it.

This is the part most apps in this category leave vague, so here it is straight.

• A block is not a lock. On iOS, blocking is built on Apple's Screen Time features, and someone determined to get past a block they set themselves generally can. If you want the block to hold, set an iOS Screen Time passcode you don't have to hand.
• Blocking is not always perfect. Apple decides what a third-party app is allowed to shield and when, and there are moments and edge cases where an app slips through.
• momm is not a safety, medical, or parental-control product. It isn't designed to protect anyone from harmful content, and it isn't treatment for anything. If your phone use is hurting you in a way an app can't touch, talk to a professional.
• Your usage figures come from Apple, not from us. We can't read them, correct them, or explain a number Apple calculated. More on why in the privacy policy.

Don't break the law with it, don't try to break into it, don't hammer our servers, don't pull it apart to rebuild it as your own, and don't use it to get at somebody else's phone or data. If you find a security hole, tell us instead of walking through it.

We can suspend or close an account that's being used this way.

Some of momm is your words: the thing you'd rather be doing, the names of your rules, a message you send us through the support form. That stays yours. You're giving us permission to store it and use it to run the app and answer you, and nothing more — we don't publish it, sell it, or use it to sell you something.

The app, the site, the code, the name, the drawings of momm, and her handwriting are ours and stay ours. Using the app doesn't transfer any of it to you.

You can delete your account from the settings screen in the app, whenever you like, without asking us. That clears your data from our database and deletes your sign-in record with our authentication provider. It's meant to be final — there's no undo.

We can end your access if you break these terms, or if we shut the service down.

We'll update these terms as momm grows. When we change something that matters, we'll change the effective date at the top and tell you in the app. Carrying on using momm after that means you're fine with the new version.

momm is provided as it is, and as it happens to be available. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind — express or implied — including that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, fit for any particular purpose, or that it will change your habits.

To the fullest extent the law allows, momm is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses, or for lost profits, lost data, or anything you missed because a block did or didn't work. Where liability can't be excluded, it's limited to what you've paid us in the twelve months before the claim — which, while momm is free, is nothing.

Some places don't allow those exclusions. If yours doesn't, they don't apply to you, and the rest of this still stands.
